Reticulocyte Count Test

The result is usually reported as a percentage of total red blood cells, sometimes alongside an absolute reticulocyte count.

A high reticulocyte count in someone who is anemic suggests the bone marrow is compensating appropriately (as seen with blood loss or hemolysis), while a low count alongside anemia points toward a production problem such as a nutritional deficiency or bone marrow disorder.
