📖What is Pressure Ulcer?

A pressure ulcer, also known as a bedsore or decubitus ulcer, is an area of localized skin and underlying tissue damage that develops as a result of sustained pressure, usually over a bony prominence such as the heels, hips, tailbone, or elbows, which restricts blood flow to the area. It typically occurs in individuals with limited mobility, such as those who are bedridden, wheelchair-bound, or critically ill, and can progress from mild skin redness to deep wounds involving muscle and bone if not addressed promptly. Pressure ulcers significantly increase the risk of serious infection and can substantially prolong hospital stays and recovery.
