Do I need to fast for a urine test?

No fasting is needed, but a first-morning sample is often preferred for a more concentrated, accurate result.

Why is a clean-catch sample important?

Proper collection technique helps avoid contamination from skin bacteria or other sources, which could otherwise cause a falsely abnormal result suggesting an infection that isn't actually present.

Can this test detect pregnancy?

A standard urinalysis doesn't specifically test for pregnancy, though a separate urine hCG test — sometimes done at the same visit — is used for that purpose.
