When Should You Get D-Dimer Test
D-Dimer is ordered if there's:
- Suspected deep vein thrombosis (DVT), often with leg swelling or pain
- Suspected pulmonary embolism, with symptoms like sudden chest pain or shortness of breath
- Monitoring for disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC) in critically ill patients
- Unexplained swelling in one limb
