About Dialysis Medicine
Dialysis replaces some kidney functions when the kidneys fail, removing waste and extra fluid. Haemodialysis, usually three times a week at a centre, and peritoneal dialysis, done at home, are the main types.
Good dialysis needs reliable access (a fistula), controlled fluids and diet, and regular blood tests. Transplantation offers the best long-term outcome for suitable patients.
