🔬Causes & Risk Factors

• 1Caused by ingestion of food or water contaminated with the bacterium Salmonella enterica serotype Typhi

• 4or handling of food by an infected carrier. The bacteria multiply in the intestines before entering the bloodstream and lymphatic system to cause systemic illness. Risk is elevated by travel to or residence in areas with unsafe drinking water and limited sanitation infrastructure.
