Causes of Bronchitis
Acute bronchitis is most commonly caused by viral infections similar to those causing the common cold, spreading through respiratory droplets and close contact. Chronic bronchitis is primarily caused by long-term exposure to irritants, especially cigarette smoke, but also air pollution and occupational dust or chemical fumes. Recurrent respiratory infections and pre-existing lung conditions can increase susceptibility to both forms.
