🔬Causes & Risk Factors

• 1Sciatica most commonly results from a herniated or bulging disc in the lumbar spine pressing directly on a nerve root that feeds into the sciatic nerve. Other causes include spinal stenosis
• 2which narrows the space around the nerve roots
• 3bone spurs from spinal arthritis
• 4and less commonly a condition called piriformis syndrome
• 5in which a muscle in the buttock compresses the nerve. Risk factors include obesity
• 6prolonged sitting
• 7physically demanding occupations involving heavy lifting or twisting
• 8and age-related degenerative changes in the spine.
