What is Cerebral Palsy?

Cerebral palsy is a group of permanent movement and posture disorders caused by abnormal brain development or damage to the developing brain, most often occurring before, during, or shortly after birth. It affects muscle tone, coordination, and motor control, resulting in a wide range of severity from mild clumsiness to significant physical disability requiring lifelong support. While the underlying brain injury does not worsen over time, its effects on movement, posture, and associated functions can change as a child grows and develops. Cerebral palsy is the most common motor disability in childhood, and early diagnosis with intensive multidisciplinary therapy significantly improves functional outcomes.
