Causes of Polycystic Ovary Syndrome
The exact cause is not fully understood, but insulin resistance is believed to play a central role by driving the ovaries to produce excess androgens, disrupting normal follicle development and ovulation. Genetic predisposition contributes significantly, with the condition often running in families, and obesity can worsen both insulin resistance and hormonal imbalance, though the syndrome also occurs in women of normal weight. Chronic low-grade inflammation is also thought to contribute to the hormonal disturbances characteristic of the condition.
