Causes of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
Caused by increased pressure on the median nerve within the carpal tunnel, often due to repetitive wrist motions, prolonged awkward wrist positioning, or swelling within the tunnel. Risk factors include pregnancy, diabetes, hypothyroidism, rheumatoid arthritis, obesity, and occupations involving repetitive hand use such as typing or assembly line work. Anatomical variations that create a naturally narrower carpal tunnel also increase susceptibility.
