Causes of Acute Liver Failure
Most commonly caused by acetaminophen overdose, either accidental or intentional, as well as viral hepatitis infections, certain prescription and herbal medications, toxin exposure such as from poisonous mushrooms, and autoimmune liver disease. Rarely, conditions such as acute fatty liver of pregnancy or Wilson's disease can precipitate acute liver failure.
