Causes of Cerebral Palsy
Cerebral palsy results from injury or abnormal development of the brain, most often occurring during fetal brain development due to factors such as infection, insufficient oxygen supply, or genetic abnormalities. It can also result from complications during a difficult birth, such as prolonged oxygen deprivation, or from brain injury, infection, or severe jaundice occurring shortly after birth. Premature birth and low birth weight significantly increase the risk of cerebral palsy.
