📖About Joint Ultrasound
Joint ultrasound uses sound waves to produce real-time images of joints, tendons and surrounding soft tissue, helping detect inflammation, fluid accumulation, tendon damage and early erosive changes in conditions like rheumatoid arthritis. It is particularly valuable for identifying subtle synovitis (joint lining inflammation) that may not be apparent on physical examination alone, allowing earlier and more accurate diagnosis. Doppler ultrasound settings can also detect increased blood flow associated with active inflammation, helping distinguish active disease from residual damage. The technique is increasingly used to guide precise needle placement for joint injections or aspirations as well.

🔬How the Treatment is Performed
- 1The patient sits or lies comfortably with the joint being examined positioned appropriately, and a gel is applied to the skin to improve contact with the ultrasound probe. The sonographer or rheumatologist moves the probe over the joint from multiple angles, examining the joint lining, fluid, tendons and blood flow using both standard and Doppler settings. Images and findings are recorded and interpreted immediately, often during the same visit as the clinical examination.
