FSH & LH (Fertility Hormones) Test

FSH (Follicle-Stimulating Hormone) and LH (Luteinizing Hormone) are two hormones produced by the pituitary gland that together regulate the reproductive system in both men and women, controlling processes from egg and sperm production to hormone release from the ovaries and testes.

In women, FSH stimulates the growth of ovarian follicles that will eventually release an egg, while LH triggers ovulation itself — their levels rise and fall in a predictable pattern throughout the menstrual cycle, which is why the timing of blood collection matters so much for accurate interpretation.

In men, these same hormones regulate sperm production and testosterone release from the testes, making the FSH/LH panel equally relevant to male fertility evaluation.

Because these hormones sit at the top of the reproductive hormonal cascade, abnormal levels can point toward problems ranging from the ovaries or testes themselves to issues originating higher up in the pituitary gland or brain.
