PSA (Prostate-Specific Antigen) Test in Sukhdev Vihar, Delhi

PSA testing is generally considered for:

• Men over 50 as part of a discussion about prostate cancer screening
• Earlier screening discussions for men with a family history of prostate cancer
• Urinary symptoms suggestive of prostate enlargement, such as difficulty starting urination or a weak stream
• Monitoring known prostate cancer or its treatment

Elevated PSA can be associated with:

• Prostate cancer
• Benign prostatic hyperplasia (non-cancerous prostate enlargement)
• Prostatitis (inflammation or infection of the prostate)
• Recent prostate examination or certain procedures, which can temporarily raise PSA

1. Avoid ejaculation for 24–48 hours before the test, as this can temporarily raise PSA levels.
2. Avoid vigorous exercise, particularly cycling, shortly before the test.
3. Inform your doctor of any recent prostate examination, biopsy, or urinary catheterization, since these can significantly elevate PSA temporarily.
4. Mention any medications you're taking, as certain drugs can lower PSA levels artificially.

Normal ranges tend to rise somewhat with age.

An elevated PSA doesn't automatically mean cancer is present — many men with a mildly raised PSA have a benign cause, and your doctor may recommend a repeat test, a Free PSA ratio, imaging, or in some cases a biopsy to clarify the finding.
