Cortisol (Morning) Test in Sabhapur, Delhi

Cortisol testing is ordered for:

• Unexplained fatigue combined with weight changes
• Suspected adrenal gland disorders
• Symptoms suggesting Cushing's syndrome, such as rapid weight gain and skin changes
• Symptoms suggesting Addison's disease, such as fatigue, weight loss, and low blood pressure
• Investigating unexplained low blood pressure or salt cravings

This test helps diagnose:

• Cushing's syndrome (excess cortisol production)
• Addison's disease (insufficient cortisol production)
• Pituitary gland disorders affecting adrenal function
• Adrenal gland tumors, in some cases

1. Testing is typically scheduled between 7 and 9 AM, when cortisol is naturally at its peak.
2. Avoid strenuous exercise and significant stress in the hours before the test, as both can artificially raise cortisol levels.
3. Get adequate sleep the night before, since disrupted sleep patterns can affect the normal cortisol rhythm.
4. Inform your doctor of any steroid medications you're taking, as these directly affect cortisol levels and interpretation.

An unexpectedly low morning cortisol can suggest adrenal insufficiency, while an unexpectedly high level may point toward Cushing's syndrome — either finding typically prompts additional, more specific testing to confirm the diagnosis and identify the underlying cause.
