Scar

A scar is an area of fibrous tissue that replaces normal skin after an injury, surgery, or skin condition has healed. Scars can be flat and barely visible, raised and thickened, or sunken, and their appearance often changes and fades gradually over months to years. The most common causes include: Surgical incisions; cuts or lacerations; burns; severe acne.

Scar becomes an emergency when it is unusually severe, sudden in onset, accompanied by other serious symptoms (chest pain, difficulty breathing, fainting), or occurs in vulnerable individuals such as infants, the elderly, or people with serious chronic conditions.
