Double Vision

Double vision, or diplopia, is seeing two images of a single object, either side by side or overlapping, which can affect one eye or both. It occurs when the eyes fail to align and work together properly, or when there is a problem with the nerves or muscles controlling eye movement. It can be intermittent or constant and may worsen with fatigue. The most common causes include: Cranial nerve palsy; stroke; myasthenia gravis; diabetes-related nerve damage.

Double Vision becomes an emergency when it is unusually severe, sudden in onset, accompanied by other serious symptoms (chest pain, difficulty breathing, fainting), or occurs in vulnerable individuals such as infants, the elderly, or people with serious chronic conditions.
