A change in a mole refers to any noticeable alteration in an existing mole's size, shape, color, border, or texture, or the appearance of new symptoms like itching, bleeding, or crusting. Such changes can be an early warning sign of skin cancer, particularly melanoma, and are best assessed using the ABCDE rule: asymmetry, border irregularity, color variation, diameter greater than 6mm, and evolving appearance. Most moles are harmless, but new changes should never be ignored.
