Types of Lung Resection

Wedge resection removes a small, localized portion of lung tissue for limited disease, while segmentectomy removes a larger anatomical segment, and lobectomy removes an entire lobe when disease is more extensive. These can be performed through traditional open thoracotomy or minimally invasive video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS), with the least amount of healthy tissue removed that still achieves the treatment goal.
