Craniofacial Surgery in Bavanahalli, Kolar, Karnataka

What is Craniofacial Surgery?

Surgical correction of skull and facial bone deformities caused by birth defects or trauma

Why Craniofacial Surgery Is Needed

Performed to correct skull and facial bone deformities arising from congenital conditions like craniosynostosis, where skull bones fuse too early, or from significant facial trauma affecting bone structure and function. It aims to restore normal skull shape, facial symmetry, and function such as breathing, vision, and jaw alignment, which can be affected by these deformities.

Signs You May Need Craniofacial Surgery

Visible abnormal head shape or facial asymmetry, in infants sometimes accompanied by signs of raised pressure inside the skull like irritability, poor feeding, or developmental delay if craniosynostosis is severe, or visible deformity and functional problems like difficulty with vision, breathing, or biting after significant facial trauma. Early diagnosis, often through pediatric check-ups or imaging, guides timing of surgery.

Types of Craniofacial Surgery

Cranial vault remodeling reshapes an abnormally fused or shaped skull in infants with craniosynostosis, sometimes performed via minimally invasive endoscopic techniques with helmet therapy for very young infants, or more extensive open remodeling for older children. Facial reconstruction techniques for trauma or congenital deformity involve realigning and stabilizing facial bones using plates, screws, and sometimes bone grafts, often requiring a multidisciplinary team.
