Aortic Valve Replacement in Ignou, Delhi

Mechanical or tissue valve - which is better?

Mechanical valves last longer but need lifelong blood-thinning medication, while tissue valves don't need long-term blood thinners but may need replacement after 10-15 years; your cardiac surgeon will help choose based on your age and lifestyle.

What is TAVR and am I a candidate?

TAVR is a minimally invasive, catheter-based way to replace the valve without open-heart surgery, generally offered to older or higher-surgical-risk patients; your cardiologist can assess your suitability.

How long is recovery after open valve replacement?

Typically 6-8 weeks, with cardiac rehabilitation recommended to safely rebuild strength and stamina.

Is the surgery risky?

As major heart surgery it carries real risks like bleeding, infection, and arrhythmias, but success rates are high, especially in experienced cardiac centers.

Will I need blood thinners after surgery?

Only long-term with a mechanical valve; tissue valve recipients usually need blood thinners for just a few months, per your cardiologist's guidance.
