Cochlear Implant in Deoli, Delhi

Will a cochlear implant restore normal hearing?

It provides useful, functional hearing rather than normal hearing, and most recipients, especially children implanted early, develop good speech understanding with consistent use and therapy.

Is the surgery risky?

It's a well-established procedure with a good safety record, though as with any surgery there are risks like infection, device failure, or changes in taste or facial sensation, which your ENT surgeon will discuss.

How soon after surgery is the implant activated?

The device is typically activated 2-4 weeks after surgery, once swelling has settled, followed by a period of programming and auditory training.

Will my child need speech therapy after implantation?

Yes, speech and auditory-verbal therapy are essential after implantation to help the brain learn to interpret the new sound signals effectively.

At what age can a child get a cochlear implant?

Implantation can be done as early as around 9-12 months of age for profound hearing loss, since earlier implantation generally leads to better speech and language outcomes.
