About Head & Neck Oncology
Head and neck oncology treats cancers of the mouth, throat, voice box, thyroid and salivary glands. Oral cancer is very common in India and is strongly linked to tobacco and betel quid.
A mouth ulcer or white or red patch lasting more than three weeks, hoarseness lasting over three weeks, or a neck lump needs prompt examination and biopsy. Treatment combines surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy with speech and swallowing rehabilitation.
