What is Pilonidal Sinus?

A pilonidal sinus is a small tunnel or cavity that develops in the skin, typically at the top of the cleft between the buttocks, often containing hair and skin debris that trigger chronic inflammation and infection. It is thought to result from loose hair being driven into the skin through friction and pressure in this area, leading to a foreign body reaction.
