Causes of Conjunctivitis
Viral conjunctivitis is most often caused by adenoviruses and spreads easily through contact with infected eye or respiratory secretions. Bacterial conjunctivitis results from organisms such as Staphylococcus or Streptococcus species entering the eye. Allergic conjunctivitis is triggered by exposure to allergens like pollen, dust mites, or pet dander, while irritant conjunctivitis can result from chemicals, smoke, or chlorine exposure.
