📖What is Vascular Blockage?

Vascular blockage refers to the partial or complete obstruction of a blood vessel, preventing normal blood flow to the tissues and organs it supplies. It most commonly results from the gradual buildup of fatty plaque within artery walls, a process called atherosclerosis, or from a blood clot that forms within a vessel or travels there from elsewhere in the body. Depending on which vessel is affected and how quickly the blockage develops, consequences range from mild reduced blood flow causing symptoms only during exertion, to sudden complete obstruction causing tissue death within minutes to hours, as seen in a heart attack or stroke. Imaging techniques such as Doppler ultrasound, CT angiography, and MRI angiography are used to precisely locate and characterize the extent of a blockage.
