Causes of Urinary Tract Infection
Most commonly caused by Escherichia coli bacteria from the gastrointestinal tract entering the urinary opening and ascending into the bladder. Risk factors include female anatomy, sexual activity, use of certain contraceptives, urinary catheterisation, incomplete bladder emptying, diabetes, and menopause-related changes in the urinary tract. Poor hygiene practices and holding urine for prolonged periods can also increase risk.
