Causes of Learning Disability
Learning disabilities are believed to result from differences in brain structure and function that affect how specific types of information, such as language sounds or numerical concepts, are processed, often with a significant genetic and hereditary component. Prenatal factors such as exposure to toxins, premature birth, or low birth weight can also increase risk. Learning disabilities are not caused by low intelligence, poor vision or hearing, lack of motivation, or inadequate teaching, though these factors can complicate diagnosis if not properly ruled out.
