Causes of Short Stature
Causes range from normal variation such as familial short stature inherited from parents or constitutional growth delay, to underlying medical conditions including growth hormone deficiency, hypothyroidism, chronic kidney disease, poorly controlled chronic illness, malnutrition, and certain genetic syndromes such as Turner syndrome. Poor nutrition during critical growth periods in childhood, a significant contributor in parts of India, can also result in reduced final adult height.
