📖What is Subdural Haematoma?

A subdural haematoma is a collection of blood that forms between the brain's surface and its outermost protective covering, typically resulting from the tearing of small bridging veins after head trauma. It can develop rapidly following a severe head injury, known as an acute subdural haematoma, or slowly over days to weeks after a relatively minor injury, particularly in older adults, known as a chronic subdural haematoma. As the blood collection enlarges, it can compress the underlying brain tissue, leading to progressively worsening neurological symptoms. Prompt recognition is critical since some cases can rapidly become life-threatening.
