📖What is Prediabetes?
Prediabetes is a condition in which blood sugar levels are higher than normal but not yet high enough to be classified as type 2 diabetes, representing an important warning stage where intervention can prevent or delay disease progression. It occurs when the body's cells become resistant to insulin or the pancreas cannot produce enough insulin to keep blood sugar within a normal range. Prediabetes is often asymptomatic and is typically discovered incidentally during routine blood testing, making regular screening particularly important for those with risk factors. Without lifestyle changes, a substantial proportion of people with prediabetes go on to develop type 2 diabetes within several years. Importantly, prediabetes is considered reversible in many cases through sustained weight loss, dietary change, and increased physical activity.
