📖What is Melasma?

Melasma is a common skin condition characterized by brown or grayish-brown patches of hyperpigmentation, typically appearing symmetrically on the face, including the cheeks, forehead, and upper lip. It is strongly linked to hormonal changes, sun exposure, and genetic predisposition, and is far more common in women, particularly during pregnancy or while taking hormonal contraceptives. The condition is harmless but can be cosmetically distressing and notoriously difficult to treat completely, often requiring sustained management. Darker-skinned individuals and those living in regions with intense sun exposure, such as India, are particularly affected.
