Causes of Ovarian Cyst
Most commonly caused by the normal hormonal processes of ovulation, where a follicle fails to release an egg or the corpus luteum does not resolve properly after ovulation, forming a functional cyst. Other causes include endometriosis, which can form cysts filled with old blood known as endometriomas, and polycystic ovary syndrome, which involves multiple small cysts related to hormonal imbalance. Rarely, cysts arise from abnormal cell growth representing benign or malignant ovarian tumours.
