Causes of Lumbar Disc Prolapse
Caused by age-related degeneration of the intervertebral disc, which loses water content and elasticity over time, making it more prone to tearing under mechanical stress such as heavy lifting, twisting motions, or repetitive strain. Risk factors include obesity, sedentary lifestyle, smoking, occupations involving heavy physical labor, and genetic predisposition to disc degeneration. Sudden trauma can also precipitate a prolapse in an already weakened disc.
