What is Warts?
Warts are small, generally harmless skin growths caused by infection with the human papillomavirus (HPV), which stimulates rapid growth of skin cells on the outer layer of skin. They can appear anywhere on the body but are most common on the hands, feet, and face, and vary in appearance from flat and smooth to rough and raised depending on their location and type. Warts spread through direct contact with the virus or contaminated surfaces, and are especially common in children and people with weakened immune systems. Most warts eventually resolve on their own, though this can take months to years.
