Causes of Bladder Cancer
Strongly associated with smoking, which is responsible for a substantial proportion of cases due to carcinogens absorbed into the bloodstream and excreted through the bladder. Other risk factors include occupational exposure to certain industrial chemicals, chronic bladder irritation or infection, prior radiation therapy to the pelvis, and a family history of bladder cancer. Age and male sex also increase risk, with the disease being more common after 55.
