Causes of Haemorrhoids
Caused by increased pressure on the blood vessels around the anus and rectum, most commonly from straining during bowel movements due to chronic constipation, prolonged sitting on the toilet, or chronic diarrhoea. Pregnancy increases risk due to increased pelvic pressure and hormonal changes, while obesity, a low-fibre diet, and heavy lifting also contribute to increased pressure. Ageing weakens the supporting tissues around these blood vessels, increasing susceptibility over time.
