What is Parasomnia?
Parasomnia refers to a category of sleep disorders characterized by abnormal, undesired physical events or experiences that occur while falling asleep, during sleep, or upon waking, including behaviors like sleepwalking, night terrors, and sleep talking. These episodes typically occur during specific stages of sleep and often involve the individual having limited or no memory of the event afterward. While usually not medically dangerous, parasomnias can occasionally lead to injury during episodes and may cause significant sleep disruption for the affected person and their household. They are more common in children, with many outgrowing the condition by adolescence.
