Causes of Jaw Cyst
Most jaw cysts arise from remnants of tooth-forming tissue left behind during dental development, which can become fluid-filled over time, or from chronic inflammation at the root tip of a dead or infected tooth. Impacted or unerupted teeth, particularly wisdom teeth, are a common site of origin for developmental cysts. Long-standing untreated dental infections are the most common cause of the inflammatory type of jaw cyst.
