Causes of Tooth Sensitivity
Tooth sensitivity most commonly results from enamel erosion due to aggressive brushing, acidic foods and drinks, or teeth grinding, as well as gum recession that exposes the root surface, which lacks a protective enamel layer. Other contributing causes include untreated tooth decay, cracked teeth, recent dental procedures, and the use of teeth-whitening products. Underlying periodontal disease that causes gum recession is a particularly common driver of persistent sensitivity.
