Causes of Pressure Ulcer
Results from prolonged, unrelieved pressure on the skin that compresses blood vessels and deprives the tissue of oxygen and nutrients, often combined with friction or shearing forces from sliding against bedding or surfaces. Risk factors include immobility, malnutrition, incontinence causing prolonged skin moisture, reduced sensation from conditions like spinal cord injury or diabetes, and poor overall circulation, particularly in critically ill or elderly, bedridden patients.
