What is Ovarian Cyst?
An ovarian cyst is a fluid-filled sac that develops on or within an ovary, and is an extremely common finding in women of reproductive age, most often forming as part of the normal menstrual cycle. Functional cysts, which arise from the normal process of egg release, are the most common type and typically resolve on their own within a few menstrual cycles without causing harm. Less commonly, cysts can result from other conditions such as endometriosis or, rarely, represent an ovarian tumour, making evaluation important particularly for large, persistent, or unusual-appearing cysts.
