Internal Bleeding Specialists in Devarai, Belagavi, Karnataka

What is Internal Bleeding?

Internal bleeding, also called internal hemorrhage, refers to blood loss occurring inside the body where it is not immediately visible, most often within the abdominal or chest cavity, the skull, or around major organs. It can result from traumatic injury, ruptured blood vessels, bleeding from an organ such as the spleen or liver, or complications of a medical condition such as an ulcer or aneurysm. Because the bleeding is hidden, it can be difficult to recognize early and may progress rapidly to life-threatening blood loss and shock before becoming clinically apparent. Diagnostic imaging such as ultrasound, CT scan, and sometimes exploratory surgery is often required to urgently locate the source and extent of bleeding.

Causes of Internal Bleeding

Internal bleeding most commonly results from blunt or penetrating trauma that ruptures blood vessels or solid organs such as the spleen, liver, or kidneys. Non-traumatic causes include ruptured aneurysms, bleeding peptic ulcers, ectopic pregnancy, ruptured ovarian cysts, and complications of blood-thinning medications or clotting disorders. Certain cancers and vascular malformations can also erode into blood vessels and cause spontaneous bleeding.

Symptoms of Internal Bleeding

abdominal pain or swelling, dizziness or fainting, rapid heart rate, low blood pressure, pale or clammy skin, unexplained bruising, weakness or confusion, blood in vomit, urine, or stool depending on the source

Treatment & Types of Internal Bleeding in Devarai, Belagavi, Karnataka

Internal bleeding is a medical emergency requiring urgent stabilization with intravenous fluids and, if significant blood loss has occurred, blood transfusion. The underlying source must be identified rapidly through imaging and controlled, which may involve interventional radiology procedures such as embolization to block the bleeding vessel, or emergency surgery to repair the injured organ or vessel directly. Ongoing monitoring of vital signs and blood counts is essential throughout treatment to assess response and detect ongoing blood loss.

Internal bleeding is classified by location, such as intracranial within the skull, intrathoracic within the chest cavity, or intra-abdominal, often from organs like the spleen or liver, each with different symptoms and urgency. It is also categorized by cause as traumatic, resulting from injury, or non-traumatic and spontaneous, arising from conditions such as a ruptured aneurysm, bleeding ulcer, or clotting disorder.
