Causes of Voice Disorder
Voice disorders can result from vocal cord lesions such as nodules, polyps, or cysts caused by chronic vocal strain or misuse, from acid reflux irritating the vocal cords, or from upper respiratory infections causing temporary laryngitis. Neurological conditions affecting the nerves that control vocal cord movement, such as vocal cord paralysis following surgery or certain neurological diseases, can also cause significant voice changes. Smoking, excessive alcohol use, and prolonged occupational voice use without proper technique are additional contributing factors.
