Causes of Pituitary Adenoma
The exact cause of most pituitary adenomas is unknown, though they arise from abnormal, uncontrolled growth of cells within the pituitary gland. A small proportion of cases are linked to inherited genetic syndromes that predispose to tumours in multiple endocrine glands. Unlike many other tumours, lifestyle factors are not known to significantly contribute to the development of pituitary adenomas.
