Causes of Menopause
Results from the natural, age-related decline in the number and function of ovarian follicles, leading to reduced production of estrogen and progesterone. Menopause can also be induced surgically through removal of the ovaries, or result from certain cancer treatments such as chemotherapy or radiation that damage ovarian function. Genetics, smoking, and certain autoimmune conditions can influence the age at which natural menopause occurs.
