Causes of Recurrent Pregnancy Loss
Common identifiable causes include chromosomal abnormalities in either partner, uterine structural abnormalities such as a septum or fibroids, hormonal imbalances including thyroid dysfunction and uncontrolled diabetes, antiphospholipid syndrome and other clotting or autoimmune disorders, and, in some cases, chronic infections. Advanced maternal age significantly increases the risk of chromosomal abnormalities in the embryo, which is one of the most common identifiable causes of loss.
