Causes of Pilonidal Sinus
Results from hair follicles becoming trapped or driven into the skin at the natal cleft due to friction and pressure, triggering a foreign body inflammatory response and cyst formation. Risk factors include prolonged sitting, obesity, excessive body hair, poor hygiene, and a deep natal cleft. It is more common in young men, particularly those with occupations requiring prolonged sitting such as drivers.
